The extra in the ordinary
For the second lesson of CID, we did the analysis of a picture during lesson period, its a photo of a man repairing water pipes under the road.

For this photo, we can see the fountain have many ripples from the water, and there is a lot of plants in the photo. This shows that there is a lot of wildlife in the place. The plants are living on the water, thus the plants have a greater chance of surviving on the water. The ripples make the whole picture look amazing as the it creates different textures on the water.
RV60
On the 16th of January, it marks our school Rvier Valley High's diamond jubilee. It is a amazing moment for all of us including me we excited for this huge event as we have prepared for this for 2 months already. It's now or never. All our efforts, hard work and hard times we have been through has finally arrived to this day, RV60. We put in all our efforts in doing the best performance we could possibly create, and show the RV spirit in our hearts for our minister and our alumni to see what RV is in 2016. Although training was hard(carrying drums is not an easy feat), we still enjoy our trainings
very much! It is tough, but it is worth it as it is the first ever mass drum display!
The woman with a baby and the man
At the 4th lesson of our CID lesson, our teacher discussed about a woman with a baby and a man. Both of them are in need of money and are asking for money in different ways. Our group though that we need to help the woman as she has a baby to take care and has a much harder time to work as she needs to take care of the baby at the same time. The man showed signs of clothing and is able to work because he does not need to take care of a baby. After this, the teacher told us the woman is from a syndicate and she is pretending as a beggar for money. The man is actually an orphan without an arm, but later met an accident and lost his pushcart which is used to carry thing thing he found that he is going to sell. After this, our group decided to help the man which is much more worthy to help instead of helping cheaters.
Does being rich bring happiness?
As cliche as the answer may sound, no, being rich does not necessarily bring about happiness. Poverty is not a major problem in Singapore, thankfully, for our government take measures to help any people in need. Yet, Singapore is one of the unhappiest countries. As a quote I heard from somewhere before, it is indeed more comfortable to cry about your problems in a Mercedes than on a bicycle. However, the situation would be different if the people were different. If the man on the bicycle had once been a wealthy merchant that had lost all his riches overnight, it would indeed be a not-so-pleasant feeling. If the man on the bicycle, however, had been someone from a poor village with nothing to worry about, he would not have known about the Mercedes and would perhaps feel happy with the little joys that he have, like the bicycle. Sometimes, people from the slums do not get to leave, and they spend their whole lives there. Riches and luxuries like cars or swimming pools may be just a story that they've heard from the success of those who managed to leave. Take Dawan's aunt for example, in Sing to the Dawn. She was an average village girl who went to the city for the hope of a better job. Many things that she had seen in the city had seemed so foreign to her, and it had impressed Dawan when she heard what was in the village. With wealth brings about stress. Going back to the two men on bicycles and Mercedes just now. One simple thing that the owner of the Mercedes had thought about that the bicycle man didn't have to worry about was petrol. The man with the bicycle did not have to worry about the fuel of his mode of transportation, for it was his own two legs that limited where he could go. When riches bring about many things, it complexes things, and the more complicated things are, the more things there are to worry about, bringing about stress. Another factor that might affect the happiness is your surroundings. Take two child, equally unwealthy, one in Singapore and one in the slums. When the child of Singapore is able to see how fortunate everyone around him is, he would naturally feel unsatisfied. Yet when the child of the slums sees that everyone around him is the same, he would feel satisfaction even more easily. Finding a piece of candy on the floor may be the highlight of his day. In Singapore, we tend to take what we have for granted, and also we are hard to satisfy. Nothing is ever enough. This brings about unhappiness, and sometimes, being rich is not such an amazing thing after all.
Chingay Reflection
It was built to commemorate Singapore’s self-governing achievement in 1959, the National Theatre was erected as a public theatre for concerts, performances and conferences. It was selected as the venue for the first Southeast Asian Cultural Festival in 1963’s opening premiere, despite being only partially completed. In 1984, the theatre was declared structurally unsafe and closed. It was torn down in 1986 for the construction of an expressway.

In my opinion, this theatre should have been preserved. Since it was built to commemorate Singapore's self-governing achievement, it should have been preserved. The theatre was a place where many Singaporeans share their memories, moreover, it was an historical site where the first Southeast Asian Cultural Festival was held. It is a glory for Singapore to be able to held such events. Thus, it should have been preserved.

Chingay Reflection
I think the purpose is to celebrate Chinese New Year and also the fact that people of different races and ethnic groups can come to celebrate this special occasion. With all its voice and gaiety, would compensate for the ban on firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits.
The first chingay was just a grand show in the year of ox, depicting aspects of Chinese New Year, dragon, lion dances, martial arts and street opera. Chingay has changed and it has adopted a multicultural flavour since 1976. The organizers have succeeded in making this change happen, because this yearly street parade is now a national festival, celebrated by Chinese, Indians, Malays and Eurasians alike. The different cultural dances emphasizes on this point, showing that people from different races come together to make this a wonderful performance. The Chingay Parade would well be a treasured glimpse into the different cultures of Singapore and the world. Now, age, race and language are no barriers. Here, we celebrate together as one.
Every year, Chingay have been a success with all the people other countries coming to Singapore to perform for this Chingay parade. Chingay is also streamed live across 88 countries, making it an very important occasion for the fellow Singaporeans in other countries, helping them to understand Singapore better.
Reflection on the One-child and Two-Child policy
3 things I found out:
-China started the 2-child policy recently
-China and Singapore started the one and two child policy respectively at about the same time
-The aging population is putting stress on China
2 perceptions you have gained:
-Reversing the policies help to improve the current situation
-There are cons to reversing the policies also
1 question I may have:
-NIL
Why must Singapore no be complacent
Even though leaders of China are taking lessons from Singapore, we should not be complacent in our achievements as bilateral ties are now a two-way street, with Singapore learning as much from China as China does from Singapore.
"We cannot be complacent. We have a special and close relationship with China. We have to continue to work at it, bring it to new levels, upgrade it, recognise the new changes in Singapore and in China, and bring our bilateral cooperation to new levels. " President Tony Tan Keng Yam, on Singapore's relationship with China speaking in behalf of Singaporeans
I agree with this point as this relationship with China is important as we learn from each other, and being complacent will not allow us to improve.
From the articles, I found out that Shanghai retained its title as the world’s busiest container port for a fifth consecutive year after widening the gap with Singapore. Shanghai, Shenzhen and other ports in China are dominating the global container-shipping market. Hence, we need to work harder to improve and not fall behind while the other countries take the lead.
To preserve or destroy
The old national theatre.
It was located at corner of Clemenceau Avenue and River Valley RoadIt was built to commemorate Singapore’s self-governing achievement in 1959, the National Theatre was erected as a public theatre for concerts, performances and conferences.
