SELF-INTRODUCTION
Hello there :) My name is Yee Hui and I will be sharing my likes and dislikes.
Hello there :) My name is Yee Hui and I will be sharing my likes and dislikes.
I enjoy singing. It started off as an interest; my friends and I would singalong to whatever trending songs. My CCA in primary school is English Drama. You might now be thinking, "What does English Drama have to do with choir?" I felt that was I losing interest in it and thought of joining choir instead. My mother encouraged me to do so as well. I wanted to be in choir as much as I wanted to be in netball. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into netball and so my CCA was choir. To be honest, I'm glad that I didn't join netball. I have friends in choir that I can confide in and they play a big part of my life in RV. I really enjoy singing with other batch mates and seniors, whom I believe enjoy choir as much as myself.
The thing that I dislike the most is untidiness. I cannot tolerate messy handwriting and books being thrown all over the place, especially on the study table. I will be unable to concentrate on what I'm doing in a messy environment. Therefore, before I start my revision, I will pack the table and make sure that it is a conducive environment for me to revise my work.
WHAT'S SIGNIFICANT ABOUT THIS PICTURE
Last Saturday, 16th January, was our school's 60th anniversary. Throughout the 60 years of RV, the school has moved several times. But the memories forged will definitely not be forgotten. What RV is today is the hardwork of the teachers, principal and seniors from batches a long time before we year 2s entered RV.
Why is this picture memorable and so significant? In a mere few months times, an estimated number of 1100 students participated in the rehearsals of RV60. During the holidays, we came back for practices. When school started, we ended class early everyday in order to perfect everything. Even though everyone go home exhausted, our efforts did pay off. The RV60 preview was a success, and so was the actual RV60. But who was the ones that put in the most effort? Mr Soh and Mr Chong. They had to overlook all the little details in the performance. The entrances and exiting of the performers, the togetherness displayed in the actions the performers did, the overall flow of the performance; not one thing could be left out to make up the spectacular performance.
The picture has so many meanings behind it; hardwork, care, dedication. The process of practicing for RV60 was ever so tiring, but efforts were not futile, and I'm proud to be an RVian.
WHAT IS SCHOOL PRIDE?
RV60 is the commemoration of 60 years of RV and to thank the alumni for building up such a good foundation for the future batches of RVians. The alumni have put in so much effort for us year 2s o be able to enjoy studying in such a conducive environment.
However, there are some downsides of the celebration. The rehearsals were long, from 2pm to 7.30pm in the evening. Not only so, the year 1s in 2016 were not able to participate and I believe that they do feel sad as they were unable to perform alongside their seniors.
Throughout the rehearsals up till the actual RV60, there were many volunteers. I believe that the volunteers chose to sacrifice time to help out in the preparation of RV60 so as to express their gratitude towards the people who built up the school's foundation. Many of our alumni are in their late 60s and early 70s, and they are the reason why RVians are able to study in a good learning environment where everyone can learn from each other.
I do hope that us RVians appreciate the efforts put in to build up RV and be thankful for all they have.
ECONOMY - AGING POPULATION
During today's lesson, I found out that the One Child Policy was implemented in China in the late 1970s as there was an overcrowding population and that people in China often gave birth to many children to help out in the farms. I feel that the One Child Policy should not have been implemented. If we look in the children's perspective, we would realize that they would have no one else to take care of them if their parents are not around and they would have no one to play with while their parents are busy working in the fields.
Even though there is an overcrowding problem in China, the government should put themselves in the childrens' shoes. Is it fair to them? Would the children feel happy as a result of the goverment's action? If I were the child, I wouldn't feel happy. I believe that if a child grows up aloof, they may grow up to be anti-social adults and be looked down upon by others. I also think that even by implementing the One Child Policy, they might not be a huge difference compared to before the implementation. There are still chances of twins being conceived. Besides, childbirth is something that is to be happy of, so why exactly should the government take away the parents' right to be happy? Instead, the government can provide subsidies for the poorer people living in China so as to be able to send the children in poorer families abroad to get a better education and perhaps, avoid the overcrowding problem in local schools.
CHINGAY PARADE 2016 — LIGHTS OF LEGACY, BRIGHTER SINGAPORE

I feel that the organizers have achieved their purpose. Before attending the Chingay rehearsal, I thought that it would just be similar to RV60, just that this time, there are much more people. However, I realized that the people of different races were coming together wearing neon-colored costumes. The volunteers had bright smiles on their faces and hey seemed to enjoy themselves a lot. I saw hardwork, teamwork and community spirit in the spectecular performances put up by different races. If people of different races were biased and conflicts took place frequently, I doubt that the Chingay rehearsals would be able to take place smoothly. It is only when people of different races come together when a performance can be put up. I didn't expect the performance to be so colorful and full of happiness as I have never seen a Chingay performance before this experience and this experience indeed made me think back about how far we have came and that Mr Lee Kuan Yew has indeed, made Singapore a more harmonious country.

CHINGAY PARADE 2016 — LIGHTS OF LEGACY, BRIGHTER SINGAPORE

I think the Chingay used to be an event to be able to celebrate the Lunar New Year as it took place after the new law in Singapore then, which was to stop playing with the firecrackers. However, I feel that the Chingay now is to commemorate the racial harmony between the different races and to remember our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew as he was the one who started this celebration.

Throughout the Chingay rehearsals, there were countless floats that were lined with lights that glowed so brightly in the darkness of the night. I think the float that's the most interesting was the one with multiple platforms connected together. There were many activities that were taking place at the same time. Not only so, there were even children under the age of 7 performing! I believe that Chingay in the past had more young participants as technology was not as advanced than compared to what we have now. The Chingay could have been a pastime of many children then, whereas now, I feel that lesser children are performing as they now have computers, televisions and other kinds of entertainment. Even though the technology today is more advanced than in the past, I feel that people should put away all types of electronics that vie for their attention and take some time to participate in other events and be a part of the annual Chingay.
ECONOMY - INTRODUCTION TO CHINA'S ECONOMY
Every country in the world is bound to have a growing population and so does Singapore. Singapore is ranked first in many ways like being the best airport in the world. These achievements may be peanuts to what foreigners have in their country because they realize the problem their country possess. Therefore, they will try to find ways to better improve themselves in order to catch up with other countries. They are not satisfied with what they already have and work harder just to go beyond the line that no other countries have crossed, and this is what makes other countries good. However, if Singaporeans take Singapore's achievements for granted and refuse to continue to strive to be the best, Singapore may rank last in every category compared to other countries. Only by finding ways to hone our skills can we rank first in everything we do.
